University of Montreal Track Test (UM-TT)

Evaluate an individual's aerobic fitness and velocity at VO2max

Primary measureDistance (m) or VO2max
CategoryAerobic Capacity
FormatPROGRESSIVE
Pacing audio0.01s Calibrated

Standardized testing protocol

Run on a 400m track with markers every 50m. Start at 6 km/h and increase speed by 1.2 km/h every two minutes. Speed changes are indicated by audio cues. Test ceases when subject falls five or more meters short of the designated marker.

Required field equipment

400m running track, marker cones every 50m, measuring tape, Time4Test audio track

Calculation formula & scoring

Time4Test automates this equation directly during the session:

VO2max = 1.353 + (3.163 × velocity in last stage) + ((0.0122586 × (velocity in last stage)²) (Ahmaidi et al. 1992)
